(More customer reviews)Just bought this (at a store) this week & set it up for my small California kingsnake, who became a member of our family one night when he/she came to visit me one night while I was taking a bath (came in the open door of the kitchen and traveled over 50 yards across the kitchen, living room and bedroom to arrive in the bathroom). Anyway, the terrarium is well-made and quite attractive. Tonight, though, I was in the bathroom and looked up to see my little friend gliding past in an encore of his/her arrival last October. I checked the terrarium and everything seemed secure. On careful inspection, I saw a trail of red dust from the sand in the terrarium--demonstrating that my friend had managed to slip out by crawling atop the styrofoam "rock wall" backdrop and squeezing out of the openings placed along the back edge. The openings are for wires from any "hot rocks" or other electrical things one might want to place in the terrarium. I have no wires in mine, and I didn't notice that there are sliders that can be used to shut off these openings. It is not at all obvious that there is a space between the styrofoam backdrop and the top screen, or that this space connects with the wire egress. But, for my small kingsnake (about 15" long) whose head is no wider than its body, it was a wide open door! The manual reiterates that you should take great care that the top screen is latched tight, but does not mention the sliders for the wire slots anywhere that I have found. My kingsnake is fortunate I was awake when he/she (I'll figure the sex thing out soon I hope!) slid by, because our cats are proven snake killers. We live in Tucson (have to change my place attribution on Amazon), on the edge of wild desert and have been visited by rattlesnakes, gopher snakes and this lovely kingsnake (the only one who volunteered to come inside!).
Bottom line, I like the terrarium a lot, but urge you to be careful that the wire slots are closed if you house a critter with a small diameter!
