Also helps get rid of that bloated feeling when you've had more crickets than you should. Our bearded dragons love it! I bought this as a replacement for an identical unit I got them 12 years ago which eventually developed a crack. Never had a problem with overheating, but I keep the thermostat low and feel the rock frequently to make sure it is not too hot. You pay more for the adjustable thermostat but it is worth it. We did try a heat rock without one once, but it was so hot I didn't think that it was safe. As the package says, do not place the heat rock directly under a heat lamp because it can get very hot and burn your reptile. The surface can be wiped clean and disinfected with bleach when needed.
