(More customer reviews)I have a large tetsubin that does a decent job of keeping tea warm - but it's so large that usually we can't finish the tea until it's cooling off. Therefore, I was in the market for a cast iron warmer.
I picked this one because aesthetically, it was more interesting than the standard plain black & also because of its size & price. My tetsubin is 9 inches across at the widest point. This warmer is 6 inches across at the widest point - but please note that the actual surface area where the pot sits (or the trivet piece) is only 4.25 inches in diameter. This works for me (no little kids or rambunctious pets to knock it over) but I can see how one could be anxious about balancing a heavy cast iron teapot over a smaller cast iron warmer with a flame inside. It would work wonderfully for smaller tetsubins.
Clearance from the floor of the warmer to the top cover is right around 2 3/8 inches. I've been using votives. The floor is flat so you can use whichever or however many candles you want. If you need to change the candle, you do need to remove the top & the top can get very hot. You can also use the warmer without the top if your teapot is big enough. There are six ventilation holes on the lower part of the warmer which cast a pretty light.
The warmer does keep the teapot and the tea warm - not super hot (though I'm sure this could be amended with the addition of more candles). The warmer would work better if the top piece was flat on top rather than have the raised nobs since it would provide more surface area contact between the warmer & the teapot... Especially considering how hot that top piece gets. I'm sure there's a reason it's designed like this (to protect from overheating ceramic or glass teapots and causing breakage?) but for the cast iron teapots, it's not a big concern.
Overall, happy with the purchase. Decent value when considering how much a warmer of this size costs at specialty tea stores.

This is a very unique and beautiful cast iron Tetsubin teapot warmer. This warmer is made of strong, heavy cast iron, with a Black finish. The warmer has a grid on top for placing teapots and a tea light holder underneath. This teapot warmer is a great addition to any collection or table setting!
