I have had this for several years. This is one of the pieces of mauviel that I use the most.
There is a hardly a dish or recipe I enjoy making that does not call for some form of warmed, softened or melted butter.
I cannot conceive of a better culinary tool for that purpose than this little warmer.
First, it is made of copper on the outside. That means that whether you use gas or electric, the heat is likely to evenly distribute around the butter. This melts it faster, and, reduces the probability of scorching or burning the butter.
Second, the stainless steel liner is far superior than tin. Although stainless steel is not ideal for a chef, as a liner, it makes up for its disadvantages over tin in that you don't have to re-line it every year or so, it is much harder than tin and scratches much less easily, and, it is much easier to clean than tin.
Third, this is really pretty (and cute). It is a nice accessory to have hanging in the kitchen.
Do you want to keep your copper bright and clean with a minimum of time and elbow grease? Use the barkeeper's friend. Bar Keepers Friend Cookware Cleanser & Polish: 12 OZ. You have to be careful to rinse your copper very, very carefully as this contains a mild amount of oxalic acid. I would also use the mauviel polish as a finish after using the barkeeper's friend, but, the barkeeper's friend will clean it up much more nicely than mauviel's polish if you have crud on your copper.
