Originally bought the Holmes branded version of this product (model HFH2992-U) which is made by the same company and absolutely loved it after two years of use. Needed a second fan for another room and didn't hesitate to buy this version (WFH2992-U). The original unit has done a great job of evenly heating a 12x14 bedroom and 10x10 adjacent master bath. To be fair, it's not working too hard because the house is set to 67 degrees but without this fan, the bedroom drops down to 62 degrees due to poor forced air circulation (home design problem). Very clear that this is the same product but branded by Jarden, the parent company for Holmes. Bought this product for the baby's room just to keep it on the toasty side all night.
What made this product stand out is that it is very (I mean extremely) quiet -- no louder than the noise from a forced air duct -- stays very cool to the touch and has both a thermal safety switch and a tip-over safety switch. That combined with the deeply recessed fan that little hands can't get to made the product a clear winner for the baby's room.
Features I've always enjoyed include the ability to set the temperature with one degree F resolution on a digital display. The absolute temperature is not that accurate but that's not a big deal. The advantage is that you can repeatably set the temp to exactly what works for you thanks to the digital display. One potential down side is that if you unplug the fan to move it to another room, it forgets the temperature and you have to push the increment button several times to get back to the temp you wanted. Since we leave it in one place, its never been an issue.
It has four operating modes: constant on, low heat; constant on, high heat, auto-on, low heat; and auto-on high heat. Using the auto modes just means it turns the heater and fan off when it reaches the target temperature. Seemed like the most energy efficient approach so that's what we use.
Another benefit I didn't realize until I finally read the manual is that these heaters can be programmed to turn off after run times of 1 to 16 hours with 1 hour time resolution. They can also be programmed to turn on up to 16 hours later, again with 1 hour resolution. When programmed to turn on, the operation is fixed to turn on for two hours at a factory defined temp of 75 degrees then turn off -- good for pre-warming a room but you still have to change the operating mode once you get there or the room will start getting cold after two hours. Also worth noting that the timers clear after each use. If you want it to turn on or off in one hour, no problem. If, however, on a daily basis you want it to turn on or off in 15 hours, it's going to take at least 16 button presses every time you want to make it happen. Could be frustrating.
All said and done, this product has been absolutely delightful. I really appreciate the ability to reliably establish a desired room temperature and to get there without noticing there actually a fan running in the room. Highly recommend to anyone that wants to quietly get and stay warm.
