I bought this for my 10-gallon breeding/fry tank. How this works is you turn this knob clockwise to increase the heat; an orange light will appear. Once you're satisfied with the temperature, turn the knob counterclockwise until the light disappears. Then it's supposed to stay that way. For me, even though I turned the knob ALL the way, parts of my tank remained cold, while others were only somewhat warm.
Before you purchase this product, also keep in mind that the water line indicator (minimum required water level) is very high up, nearly up to the top of the aquarium.
